* Expert Meeting on Noise and OBD to Be Held in Thailand
An Expert Meeting on noise and OBD, organized by Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT), will be held in Bangkok, Thailand for two days on 7 and 8 August 2008. JASIC is scheduled to send its experts on noise and OBD to the meeting and give presentations.

* JASIC Held ASEP Informal Meeting of UN/ECE/WP29/GRB
JASIC held the ASEP (Additional Sound Emission Provisions) Informal Meeting of the UN/ECE/WP29/GRB for three days from 11 to 13 June 2008. Please click here for the outline of the meeting.
* 2008 Edition of the Automobile Type Approval Handbook for Japanese Certification (Blue Book) will be soon available.
On July 31, JASIC will publish the 2008 edition of the Blue Book, which compiles Japanese automobile regulations revised on or before the end of March 2008.

* JASIC Asia Expert Meeting on the safety of two-wheeled vehicles held in Thailand
On 4 and 5 June 2008, an expert meeting on the safety of two-wheeled vehicles, organized by the Department of Land Transport (DLT) of Thailand, was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Please click here for details.
* Completion of the 3rd JASIC-CATARC Forum
The 3rd JASIC-CATARC Forum was held on 20 May 2008 with the attendance of about 80 participants.
At the Forum, Chinese participants made presentations on the latest movements, information on standards, future plans, etc. regarding automobiles in China and also JASIC explained the concerned subjects and future direction of the WP29 as well as the certification system under the 1958 agreement.
During the Q & A session after the presentations, the participants had a very active and extensive discussion. At the end of the discussion, the Chinese participants requested for more in-depth discussion on a wider range of subjects.
As a conclusion, all the participants confirmed to continue the Forum, while seeking the cooperation of the governments of both countries, and agreed to hold the next Forum (the 4th JASIC-CATARC Forum) in China.
* Report on the 12th JASIC Asia G-I Meeting Now Available
The Report on the 12th JASIC Asia G-I Meeting, held in the Philippines in November 2007, has been posted on the "Harmonization Trends in Asia" page.
We expect that different countries will effectively utilize this report in their efforts for the international harmonization of standards and certification systems.

* 13th JASIC Asia Expert Meeting to Be Held in Indonesia
The 13th JASIC Asia Expert Meeting, organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 2 July 2008. The participants of this meeting will discuss ECE R43 (safety glazing materials). JASIC experts on the requirements of glass panes and their installation on vehicles will attend the meeting to give presentations and conduct question and answer sessions.

* 13th JASIC Asia Government-Industry Meeting to Be Held in Thailand--First Notice
Date: 26-28 November 2008 (3 days)
Venue: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Co-organizers: Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT) and JASIC
Scheduled participants: Representatives of government offices in Asian countries/territories involved in vehicle regulation and certification, and people from the automotive industry involved in manufacturing of vehicles and vehicle parts
This Meeting will be the first meeting in the Fifth Series whose theme is “Strengthening of the Mutual Recognition of a Whole Vehicle Certification infrastructure under the 1958 Agreement” Scheduled for this Meeting are reporting of activities of each country/territory for harmonization of regulations, discussion on the future establishment of vehicle certification system in each country/territory, and others. In addition, for fruitful discussions on the United Nations WP.29 activities Mr. Ramos from the UN/ECE/WP.29 Secretariat is scheduled to join us in the Meeting.
We look forward to active participation from Asian countries/territories.
* 12th JASIC Asia Expert Meeting to Be Held in Bangkok
An Asia Expert Meeting on the motorcycle safety, organized by Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT), will be held at Siam City Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand for two days on 4 and 5 June 2008.
Experts from JASIC will give presentations about motorcycle braking (ECE R78) on Day 1 and about installation of motorcycle lighting devices (ECE R53) and headlamps (ECE R113) on Day 2.
We hope that this Meeting will be attended by many interested parties from Thailand as well as from other countries.
* 30th APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting Held in Manila
The 30th APEC Transportation Working Group (TPTWG) Meeting was held in Manila, the Philippines on 14-18 April 2008.
Representatives from JASIC attended the Vehicle Standard Harmonization Sub-Group (VSHG) Meeting,
where we discussed vehicle standard harmonization issues with participants from other member economies. For the result of the meeting, please click here.

* 3rd JASIC-CATARC Forum to Be Held in Tokyo
The 3rd JASIC-CATARC Forum is scheduled to be held in Tokyo on 20 May 2008. The programs of the Forum include exchange of opinions on standardization and certification activities in Japan and China.
