* 35th JASIC Asia Expert Meeting Held in the Philippines
The Expert Meeting on Speedometer (UN R39) and Driver Operated Controls for Motor Cycles and Mopeds (UN R60), organized by the Philippines’ Department of Transport and Communications (DOTC) and Land Transportation Office (LTO), was held in Manila, Philippines on 2 August 2013. The Meeting was attended by a total of 47 people, including representatives of DOTC, LTO, Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA), Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (MVPMAP), and Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and of manufacturers such as Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Toyota, Isuzu, and Ford, as well as a participant from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

JASIC sent experts on each theme and gave presentations. The participants deepened their understanding on discussed themes through the Q & A session, etc.

* 34th JASIC Asia Expert Meeting Held in Thailand
The Expert Meeting on Audible Warning Devices (UN R28), Speedometer (UN R39), Rear-view Mirrors (UN R46), and Pneumatic Tyres for Passenger Vehicles (UN R30), for Commercial Vehicles (UN R54) and for Motor Cycles and Mopeds (UN R75), organized by Thailand's Department of Land Transport (DLT), was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 30 July 2013. The Meeting was attended by a total of about 65 people from DLT, Thailand Automotive Institute, Thai Automotive Industry Association, and Thai Auto-Parts Manufacturers Association.

JASIC sent experts on each theme and gave presentations. The participants deepened their understanding on discussed themes through the Q & A session, etc.

The year 2013 edition of Automobile Type Approval Handbook for Japanese Certification ("Blue Book") was published on July 31, 2013.

The Expert Meeting on Rear Underrun Protection (UN R58), Front Underrun Protection (UN R93) and Category M2 or M3 Vehicles with Regard to Their General Construction (UN R107), organized by the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ), will be held in Cyberjaya, Malaysia on 28 August 2013.

* 33rd JASIC Asia Expert Meeting Held in Vietnam
The Expert Meeting on Emission of Carbon Dioxide and Fuel Consumption (Passenger Car) (UN R101) and Labeling System, organized by the Vietnam Register (VR), was held on 10 July 2013, in Hanoi.

The meeting was attended by about 80 representatives in total from International Cooperation and Vehicle Certification Departments of VR; Environmental Dept., Ministry of Transport; Directorate for Standards, Metrology & Quality; Military Technical Academy; School of Transportation Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology; local corporations of foreign-owned automakers such as Toyota, Honda, Fuji Heavy Industries, Suzuki, Yamaha, Hino, Isuzu, Ford, Mercedes Benz, Daewoo, etc.; local two-wheel and four-wheel manufacturers; and including one representative from Toyota TMAP-EM in Thailand.

JASIC sent experts on the subjects and gave presentations. The meeting helped the participants deepen their understanding of the subjects through presentations, Q & A sessions, and discussions.

* Japan and the Philippines Launch the Project "Assistance for Philippines' Efforts Toward Harmonization of Automotive Regulations and Mutual Recognition of Approvals" by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF)
The Governments of Japan and the Philippines agreed to launch a new project that provides assistance for the Philippines’ efforts toward harmonization of automotive regulations and mutual recognition of approvals (project duration: 2 years) utilizing the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). As an organizer of this project, JASIC attended, with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), a meeting held in Manila on 5 June 2013 by the Philippines’ Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to launch the project.
