30th APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting Held in Manila

 


The 30th APEC Transportation Working Group (TPTWG) Meeting was held in Manila, the Philippines on 14-18 April 2008. Representatives from JASIC attended the Vehicle Standard Harmonization Sub-Group (VSHG) Meeting.


JASIC presented the current status of the ECE adoption, international cooperation work for internationalization of standards and certification system, and discussions on building infrastructure for international vehicle certification system, and received various questions from other participants.


In addition, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism introduced its activities toward establishing international standards on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Lively discussions were held on the status of regulation harmonization in other member economies, environment and safety measures, activities at the United Nations WP.29, etc.


At the next meeting, it was decided to summarize the status of ECE adoption and exchange information on type approval system in each member economy as well as to discuss a system to be used as benchmark.

Total of 19 representatives from Indonesia, Australia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Japan, the Philippines, Russia, International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (observer), Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (observer), Taiwan Transportation Vehicle Manufacturers Association (observer), and JICA (observer).
