At the Forum, the Japanese delegates from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and JASIC presented automobile regulation harmonization activities in Japan as well as ASEAN movements. In particular, the merits of joining the 1958 Agreement were explained and a brief introduction of IWVTA (International Whole Vehicle Type Approval System) as a new system for future mutual recognition of vehicle type approvals was given. The Chinese delegates reported that a committee for WP.29 was established last year to strengthen China’s WP.29 activities with a view to actively participating in each GR and informal meetings and that China has been carefully studying the 1958 Agreement. It was agreed that this Forum is an important place for Japan and China to exchange opinions on the harmonization of regulations and that the next Forum will be held in Japan.
