Mr. Kenji Wani has been elected to a one-year term as Chairman for the Executive Committee (UN/ECE/WP.29/AC.3) of the 1998 Agreement. Mr. Wani is the Director of International Affairs Office for Engineering Planning Division of Engineering and Safety Department, Road Transport Bureau in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan, and his expected role as WP.29/AC.3 Chairman is to arrange and coordinate activities towards early adoption of global technical regulations. In the past, representatives of Japan have served as Chairmen for the Informal Meeting on ITS, the Informal Group on gtr Common Tasks, the Informal Group on gtr Pedestrian Safety, and the Informal Group on gtr OBD, making this Japan's fifth chairmanship within WP.29.
