Global Technical Regulations (gtr) Concerning Vehicle Safety and Environment

At the 136th session of the World Forum for the Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) (Geneva, 21-24 June 2005), Global Technical Regulation Concerning World-wide Motorcycle Emissions Test Cycle (WMTC) or gtr No. 2, which is the second of a series of Global Technical Regulations concerning vehicle safety and environment under the 1998 Agreement (gtr), and Special Resolution No. 1 (SR1), which is a new special resolution concerning the 1998 Agreement, were adopted.

Global Technical Regulation Concerning World-wide Motorcycle Emissions Test Cycle (WMTC) is a standard for the globally uniform test cycle to be used in testing motorcycle emissions.

Special Resolution No. 1 (SR1) is a resolution specifying common definitions of vehicle categories, masses and dimensions.

Throughout drafting efforts for gtr No. 2 and SR1, JASIC has played an active role at WP.29 by having its representatives, mostly from its Pollution and Energy Subcommittee and General Safety Subcommittee, attend the informal meetings, etc. In developing SR1, in particular, Japan served as a chair country and a technical sponsor with a view to finalising an adoptable resolution.

JASIC is determined to continue its vigorous efforts in future activities for global harmonisation of vehicle regulations.
