Round Table on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)

In the framework of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Inland Transport Committee (UN/ECE/ITC), a Round Table on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) was held in Geneva on Wednesday, February 18, 2004. JASIC had been involved in preparing this round table and outlines the results of the meeting as follows.

The round table started with a presentation on the past and future activities at the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP29) by Mr. Kenji Wani from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Director, International Affairs Office, Road Transport Bureau), who assumes the role of Co-Chairman of the Informal Group on ITS under WP29 of UN/ECE/ITC. The details of the activities were reported by Mr. Ian Noy, a former chairman of International Harmonized Research Activities (IHRA) ITS Working Group. In addition, the latest technologies related to ITS were introduced by automobile manufacturers from Japan, U.S. and Europe. As a result, understanding from participants on WP29's activities was achieved.

JASIC will continue to vigorously pursue ITS-related activities in Japan by holding meetings and conferences in line with the Informal Group's activities and in collaboration with government and industry.
