Summary Report of the 8th Asian Government-Industry Meeting

1. Profile of the 8th G/I Meeting
  With the support of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT), JASIC organized the 8th G/I Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 15 to 17, 2003 with the Vietnam Register (VR) of Ministry of Transport acting as the co-organizer. Some 120 participants active in the areas of transport, environment and regulations represented the governments and automobile manufacturers' associations of the following countries and regions:

  12 Asian members Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan
  Observers South Africa, Australia
 
After the closing of the G/I Meeting, the participants took a technical tour of the Motorcycle Plant of Honda Vietnam Company Ltd. on October 17.
   
2. Results of the 8th G/I Meeting
  The 8th G/I Meeting was the second meeting of the third series and focused on the adoption of ECE Regulations into national regulatory systems and promoting the participation in UN/ECE/WP29. In order that each country may move towards accession to the 1958 Agreement, the participants discussed the terms stipulated in it and verified the obstacles that hinder accession to the Agreement.

As a result, the future course of harmonization activities to be promoted by G/I Meetings was confirmed in the Wrap-up.
   
3. Schedule of the next G/I Meeting
  The next (9th) G/I Meeting will be co-organized by the Thailand's Department of Land Transport (DLT) as follows
