JASIC to Launch an Automobile Regulation Seminar

JASIC plans to stage an "Advanced Training Course on Motor Vehicle Technical Regulation and Certification (Course on Motor Vehicle Regulation and Certification, Course on Motor Vehicle Inspection and maintenance)" in Tokyo this summer under the sponsorship of MLIT, and the seminar program is as outlined below.

Government members assigned to regulation drafting, type approval testing, and in-use inspection will be invited to the seminar from various countries in Asia.

The purpose of the seminar is to enhance the participants' expertise in automotive regulation, testing and inspection in order to assist in the traffic safety and environmental protection of Asian countries.

Further, the seminar is part of the JASIC activity to internationally harmonize automotive regulations and to realize the mutual recognition of approvals among many countries under the leadership of United Nations ECE/WP29.



PROGRAM OUTLINE OF THE SEMINAR

1. Date: July 23 to August 2, 2002 (11 days)

2. Training courses & trainees:
"Regulations/certification course"
A total 9 government members will be invited - two each from Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, and one each from China, Vietnam and Malaysia.
"Inspection/maintenance course"
A total 3 government members will be invited - one each from Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

3. Principal areas of training
- Domestic preparations for regulations harmonization
- ECE Regulation adoption and participation in the harmonization activity of ECE/WP29
- Domestic preparations for the mutual recognition of approvals among countries
- Establishment of a national automobile inspection system
