Summary Report of the 7th JASIC Asian Government-Industry Meeting

1. Profile of the 7th G/I Meeting
  With the support of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT), JASIC organized the 7th G/I Meeting in Makati, the Philippines from October 23 to 25, 2002 in concert with the Philippines Land Transportation Office (LTO) acting as the co-organizer.

A total of about 120 people active in the areas of transport, the environment and regulations participated from the governments and automobile manufacturers' associations of the following countries and regions:

  Asian Members Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines, Japan
  Observers South Africa, Australia
 
After the closing of the G/I Meeting, participants took a technical tour of a local vehicle inspection center and a vehicle assembly plant with the help of LTO and CAMPI (the Philippines automobile manufacturers' association).
   
2. Results of the 7th G/I Meeting
  The 7th G/I Meeting marked the start of the third series of meetings aimed at the adoption of ECE Regulations into national regulatory systems and at participation in UN/ECE/WP29.

The participants of the 7th G/I Meeting discussed ways of realizing the harmonization of automotive regulations at WP29 under the rules laid down in the 1958 Agreement.

As a result, the future course of harmonization activities to be promoted by G/I Meetings was confirmed in the Wrap-up.
   
3. Schedule of Next G/I Meeting
  It was decided that the next (8th) G/I Meeting will be co-organized by the Vietnam Register (VR) as follows:
  Host country: Vietnam
