Overview of 21st APEC TPT-WG

| During the 21st APEC Transportation WG meeting held
in Brisbane, Australia, the Road Transport Harmonization Project (RTHP)
meeting was convened on September 23 and the RTHP workshop, organised
by JASIC (APEC-RTHP consultant), was held on September 24. At the RTHP meeting, chaired jointly on a provisional basis by Mr. Onoda, Senior officer, International Affairs Office, Engineering and Safety Department, Road Transport Bureau, MLIT and by Ms. Julie Abraham, Director of the Office of International Policy Harmonization, NHTSA of the USA, with participation by 12 economies, including China, Korea, Chinese Taipei and the ASEAN countries, a report was given on the FY 2002 Phase V Stage 3 Project, and the states of progress in harmonization of regulations in each economy were confirmed. At the workshop, discussions focused on mutual recognition arangement (MRA) and on the introduction of technical regulations harmonized under the 1958 Agreement, in consideration of contents such as RTHP activities (Phase V Stage 3) and the Bogor Declaration targeted by APEC. |
