GRPE to Set Up an Ad-hoc Group on Heavy Duty Vehicle
Emission OBD, and Mr. Odaka of NTSEL Elected Chairman
At the 43rd GRPE international meeting held
in Geneva from January 15 to 18, members decided that an
Ad-hoc Group on heavy duty vehicle emission OBD would be
established. Mr. Odaka of Japan's National Traffic Safety
and Environment Laboratory was elected chairman of that
Ad-hoc Group. The draft Terms and Reference (see attached
Informal Document No.4) proposed by Japan was approved concerning
the steering and work schedule of the Ad-hoc Group.
The first Ad-hoc meeting will be convened the day before
the next (44th) GRPE meeting in June. From there the Ad-hoc
Group is expected to draw up a draft Global Technical Regulation
for the above-mentioned OBD in two years, and the draft
will be proposed to GRPE in June 2004. In this connection
GRPE in January also approved that a preliminary meeting
to prepare for the first Ad-hoc session be held in Tokyo
on February 22.
