Wrap-up of the 8th Government and Industry Meeting in Hanoi

1. The eighth
Government-Industry Meeting was held as the second meeting of the
third series of Government-Industry Meeting. Under the series' theme
of "Realization of ECE Regulations Adoption and WP29 Participation",
the participants exchanged opinions to improve the understanding of
the provisions of the 1958 Agreement and discussed the problems the
countries preparing the accession to the Agreement were facing and
the importance of the adoption of the ECE Regulations.
2. The discussion allowed the participants to develop their understanding
of the 1958 Agreement and make clear the issues they have to review
before acceding to the Agreement. During the discussion, several countries
made encouraging comments declaring that they were committed to working
hard on the accession to the Agreement in the near future.
3. As a result of discussion on the significance of accession to the
1958 Agreement and the expected benefits of the accession, the meeting
decided to invite parties involved in organization of WP29 to the
next Government-Industry Meeting and exchange views with them to promote
activities for the accession to the Agreement and let them and the
world know the realities of Asia.
4. About the expert meeting on lamps held this September under the
sponsorship of Thai DLT and the technical support of JAPIA, the sponsor
and supporter both reported that the meeting was a great success.
At this eighth Government-Industry Meeting, it was proposed that an
expert meeting be held with JASIC's technical support to overcome
factors hindering the accession to the 1958 Agreement. It was agreed
that any organization who wants to sponsor the expert meeting should
inform JASIC of it by the end of November.
5. The next G/I Meeting will be convened in Vietnam from October 15
to 17, 2003, with VR (Vietnam Register) and JASIC acting as co-organizers.
